Notion Alternative for Busy People Who Hate Organizing
If you keep building Notion setups and dropping them two weeks later. Your setup is probably demanding too much upkeep.
This Notion alternative needs none. You dump your thoughts in one place. Claude titles them, files them into folders, and finds them when you ask.
Setup takes about 5 minutes and works on any Claude plan, including Free.
Why do Notion setups stop working?
They're built for your ideal self, the one with time to tag, file and link every page.
Your real self is busy. So things pile up, you stop opening it, and you go back to your old ways.
How does it work?
You dump. Claude files. You ask, Claude finds.
Say this is your week. You drop each thing into Claude as it happens:
Mon: "brightline wants the proposal shorter, lead with pricing"
Tue: "brightline sync: CMO cares more about speed than cost"
Thu: "offer new clients a 2 week pilot instead of a full rollout"
Claude files each one into the right folder for you.
On Friday, you ask Claude, "prep me for tomorrow's call." Claude searches your files for the relevant context and pulls into one brief.
What do you need before you start?
A Claude account. Any plan works, including Free.
A Cleve account. It takes 2 minutes to create one.
Step 1: Create a Cleve account (2 mins)
Go to app.cleve.ai and sign up with Google or email. You don't need to set anything up. Claude will do that for you.
Step 2: Connect Cleve to Claude
Add Cleve as a custom connector in Claude, then sign in. It's three short steps.
1. In Claude, click + in the chat box, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
2. Name it Cleve and paste this link: https://app.cleve.ai/mcp. Click Continue, then Add.
3. A browser tab opens. Click Continue connecting, then sign in to Cleve.
Done. Cleve is now connected to Claude.
Make sure you're signed in to the same Claude account on both your browser and the desktop app, to avoid an "account mismatch" error.
Step 3: Tell Claude to file for you
Paste this prompt into your Claude chat. It tells Claude how to file, tidy and find your notes.
How do I know it's working?
Dump a thought, then ask for it in a new chat.
For example, paste "client wants the deck shorter" into Claude. Claude files it and tells you where it went.
Next time, ask "what did the client want changed?" If Claude finds it in Cleve, you're set.
That's it. You dump, Claude files, and your thinking is there when you need it.
Frequently asked questions
Isn't this just another system I'll drop?
Cleve is plugged straight into Claude, so you can maintain the system just by telling Claude. Your maintenance drops to practically zero - and you always have the option to open up Cleve and organize things further yourself. You have full control.
What if Claude files something in the wrong place?
Claude studies the folder structure first before deciding where every document goes. In most cases it’s smart enough to know where to store things. It also tells you where each document is stored so you can always move it.
Can I still see my notes?
Yes. They're plain docs in folders in Cleve. Open them any time at app.cleve.ai.
Can I dump thoughts from my phone?
Yes. Once Cleve is connected to your Claude once, you can access it from any device where you’re logged into Claude.
Will Claude delete my notes?
Not with the setup prompt above. It tells Claude to never delete anything without asking you first.
Does this work on Claude's free plan?
Yes. Free plans can add one custom connector. Cleve can be that one.
How much does Cleve cost?
Cleve plans start at $8 a month (Starter), with Pro at $20 and Max at $100. Connecting to Claude works on every plan. See Cleve pricing.
