When we first launched Cleve, we knew one thing by heart:
Personal branding was growing. Especially for those of us who work with clients - it was quickly becoming one of the top reasons people chose to work with us.
Yet, we’re not full-time creators. We’ve got our own full-time jobs. And content felt like this extra thing we knew we should do, but couldn’t find the time or energy for.
So Cleve started as a simple idea:
To build an AI tool that quickly turns our thoughts into content drafts. We (the busy humans) could then make a few edits and post, saving hours of writing.
For a while, that worked.
But over time, we started noticing that people craved to feel connected to their content. They wanted to feel proud of what they’re putting out, to feel that the words were theirs and not something handed to them.
Even with AI helping, people wanted to be in control of the output.
So we took a step back to explore this new concept.
The idea was to give users more control over their content while having AI at their side. To use AI however much (or little) as they want. Put the choice in their hands.
3 principles that guided us:
What users want to say matters more than how fast it gets said
AI should help us think and express our ideas more clearly
Content should always, always feel personal
Rebuilding Cleve
Some of you might’ve already seen our new logo.
But what we’re working on is deeper than a brand refresh.
To give users more control over their content while still having access to AI, Cleve 2.0 had to be a near-complete rebuild inside out.
A quick look at what’s coming:
Idea capture
Quickly capture your ideas in text, voice notes, or images. Saved locally so you can come back to them any time.
AI chat with memory
A chat that remembers your tone, style, and past thoughts. So conversations feel more personal, with more relevant and nuanced responses for you.
AI web search
Research without breaking flow. Search the internet right from your workspace and pull in useful info without ever switching tabs.
AI draft
Preview content paths before committing. See your idea explored in different angles, so you get to what you want fast.
AI edit
In-line editing for more precise control and tweaks.
Custom prompts
Build your own shortcut prompts for your favourite AI commands.
At the heart of this all is one goal:
To bring you closer to your own original thoughts, and turn them into something meaningful.
It’s definitely not an instant content generator anymore, but we’re okay with trading a little speed if it means the content feels more like you.
Now that AI has made creating easy for everyone, it's what we say that matters more than how quickly we can say it.
Going mobile-first
Cleve 2.0 will come in two parts:
Cleve mobile — for when ideas hit you on the go (launching in June)
Cleve web app — for deep focus and long-form writing (launching in July)
We’ll be launching mobile first as it’s been our most requested feature.
Both will run on the same engine, and your entries will sync across both.
That said, Cleve 2.0 will be completely separate from the current Cleve version.
2.0 is built on a faster, more efficient system. While the current Cleve will still be accessible for now, we’ll gradually phase it out. We’ll share more info as they become ready. Don’t worry though, the transition will be easy.
For now, a few important things to know:
The new Cleve will feel different. The interface, the features, and how it works - it’s a new experience entirely.
The current version and Cleve 2.0 are independent from each other. There will be a one-time migration of all your past entries to the new version. Beyond that, both versions won’t sync.
Your 2.0 mobile entries will automatically sync with 2.0 Web once web launches later.
If you're currently on a Cleve Pro plan, you'll be upgraded to a higher tier with more perks free of charge.
If you’re an existing user, thank you for being with us this far.
If you’re new, welcome. You’re here at an exciting time.
This is the beginning of a more thoughtful, more human way to create.
